Worried About Losing Your Hearing Aids?

Hearing aids are a big investment. They are also very small. This is great when it comes to keeping these devices discrete. It's not so great when you just can't find the little buggers anywhere. With our advanced technology hearing aids, they can connect to your smart phone via Bluetooth. Not only does this provide you with a personalized listening experience, music, and phone calls, it also allows you to find your hearing aids. Through the app on your smartphone, you can locate misplaced hearing aids.

We've also had patients use location devices like The Tile App to keep track of their devices. With these types of location devices, you can place a small fob in your hearing aid case. We've included the link to The Tile App if you're interested in learning more. You can of course research and find your favorite location device. There are a few out there!

If the thought of losing these life changing devices was keeping you from investing in hearing aids, give us a call today at 901-310-5983 to learn more about ways to keep track of your hearing aids.

Importance of Healthy Hearing!

AdobeStock_49777266.jpeg

The average person waits about 7 years from the time they notice difficulty hearing until they proactively seek out help. Why do they wait so long when our ears are so important in our daily lives? They not only connect us to those around us but they help notify us of our surroundings. Perhaps they don't want to be seen as 'old', having a 'weakness', or believe that they can hear 'good enough'.

Research has shown hearing loss affects multiple facets of our daily lives. Many view hearing loss as more of an inconvenience, but it stems to many common problems. Human behavior is very social and suffering hearing loss imposes on our ability to stay connected to the world around us.  Research has even shown the correlation in hearing loss and cognitive decline such as dementia. This is because your brain loses needed stimulation because it's cut off from the world around.

Studies have also linked untreated hearing loss to:

  • irritability, negativism and anger
  • fatigue, tension, stress and depression
  • avoidance or withdrawal from social situations
  • social rejection and loneliness
  • reduced alertness and increased risk to personal safety
  • impaired memory and ability to learn new tasks
  • reduced job performance and earning power
  • diminished psychological and overall health

Hearing loss isn't limited to just old age. People of all ages experience hearing loss. That's why it's important to have your hearing tested . If you or a loved one struggle with hearing loss, come see us at Memphis Audiology! Call us at 901-310-5983 to schedule and appointment!

Do Your Hearing Aids Live in a Drawer?

Hearing Aid Drawer

It's not entirely uncommon for these life changing devices to end up in a drawer lost among trinkets and knick knacks. Here are a few ways to maximize the use of your hearing aids:

  1. Keep your hearing aids in an easy to access place. Somewhere you won't forget them.
  2. Make sure you have plenty of batteries kept wherever you are, whether it be at home, at work, and/or packed while traveling.
  3. We are creatures of habit. In your morning routine, include putting your hearing aids on right after you brush your teeth or another activity you do daily.
  4. Make sure your hearing aids are fit properly (We can help you there!). If they are uncomfortable, it's very likely you won't wear them on a day to day basis.
  5. If your hearing aids are broken, you definitely won't wear them. Bring them in for a checkup if you don't think they are working properly.
  6. Finally, if you don't think you are benefiting from hearing aids, you won't wear them. We had a patient who, after being fit with hearing aids, called to tell us about how he didn't remember that bags of chips made a crinkle sound. He loved hearing the subtle notes in his favorite music. It's a wonderful and noisy world out there! Don't miss out because your hearing aids live in a drawer!

At Memphis Audiology, we want to help you hear the life you love. This isn't always in the form of new hearing aids, but we also want to maximize the hearing aids you already have. Give us a call today at 901-310-5983 to schedule an appointment for all your hearing needs!

Audiologist vs. Big Retail Stores

AdobeStock_100940837.jpeg

If you’ve ever researched purchasing hearing aids, you may have come across those bulk purchase retail stores pricing. Why is it so different purchasing hearing aids from an Audiologist? In short, an audiologist provides a better value and more importantly, a positive experience as a whole. Those box stores offer a lower initial price but provide little to no service. Often the hearing aids aren’t programmed properly, which can undervalue the benefit of hearing aids and even, in worst cases, damage your hearing. At Memphis Audiology, we provide a fully encompassed service. When you purchase hearing aids, you and your hearing aids are covered for up to 4 years. This means all your follow up appointments are included. If something were to go wrong or you had difficulty with your hearing aids, you’re covered. You can also take comfort in knowing a real Doctor of Audiology, not a store employee that may have limited training, will fit and program your hearing aids properly. We take your hearing care seriously at Memphis Audiology. Schedule an appointment today at 901-310-5983!

Hearing loss may not be what you think it is. It happens gradually over time. Hearing loss isn’t like listening to something with the volume turned down. Instead, it can be difficulty understanding certain high pitch sounds and consonants especially in noisy environments. We, at Memphis Audiology, are dedicated to providing you the best hearing services. Call today at 901-310-5983 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Bell to learn if you may be living with hearing loss.

The real cost of hearing loss isn't always monetary.  It's the frustration you and your loved ones experience when you ask for someone to repeat themselves. It's that phone call you avoid making because you don't want to struggle through a conversation. It's the movie you didn't watch because you knew you wouldn't understand the dialog. Hearing aids can make such a positive impact on your day to day life. Situations that you once loved and now avoid can now be enjoyable again. Call us today at 901-310-5983 to schedule a hearing evaluation. Get back to the life you love.
